In times of stress, the relaxation response of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) can be induced through breathing exercises. In this series you will be guided through various techniques to do just that!
I remember how nervous I was when I signed up for my first ever yoga teacher training. I was a broke, single mother who was struggling with balancing life’s responsibilities of work, motherhood and maintaining friendships. I was overwhelmed and would second guess every decision I made. I would talk myself out of anything good or positive, feeling guilty that I needed to do things perfectly or not at all. I was in a heavy space mentally which eventually presented itself in physical symptoms.
Despite my reservations, I went to training anyway. My life was chaotic and I craved a sense of peace and ease. My inner voice guided me to that very first yoga teacher training.
One of the things I loved most about it was that it was very focused on the fact that “you are exactly where you need to be.” So, if you can’t master a pose or you have to do an easier version, it’s all good! You’ll make it happen when you’re ready. It was different than the fitness regimes I was used to, where there is a right or wrong way. With yoga, our teacher emphasized and encouraged us to just “do what feels good.”
With a background in fitness, I always thought yoga would be fun and easy. After my first class I found it was NOT as easy as I imagined, but the true surprise was that I found the sense of peace and ease I was searching for. These feelings are still with me and have been instrumental to making positive and prosperous changes in my life.
Yoga is the relationship that is built between the breath, body, mind and spirit. Yoga is creating space free from obstacles in your own person to live. Yoga is freedom and release. I am here to help others find this release so that they can comfortably and competently move their bodies through life. I am here to help others become open and willing to learn something new.
Yoga has been a part of my life for over 20 years, and my practice has helped me grow stronger, more flexible and fearless, both on and off the mat. Yoga inspires me to live each moment more mindfully. Tapping into my feminine energy, through inner knowing, body movement and love, I give myself permission to grow and better understand myself and the impact I have on others. I connect from my own personal journey to help others identify barriers and support them on their own self discovery of inner knowing. I believe we are all capable of healing ourselves.
I am a Certified Integrative Therapeutic Yoga Teacher, Lifestyle Coach and Tantra Trained Teacher with 13 years experience working with adults who have acquired brain injuries. I will always be a student of these practices and am deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers have shared with me.
